Land Ahoy

To be blunt it was tough going again this morning. I thought I could hear the pipit onboard still, but only saw it (or maybe another) late afternoon to eliminate squeaky door as a possibility. Otherwise four hours of watching produced two Leach’s Petrel together.

After some downtime early afternoon Jane and I were walking round the jogging track when we saw a Peregrine. This was soon followed by six Gannets and thereafter the nearer we got to land things picked up apace.

A number of rafts of large shearwaters were seen, the first couple looked like Cory’s Shearwaters but thereafter the majority were Great Shearwaters. The first Fulmar of the trip was finally added to the tally. There were a few small pods of dolphin, I have no idea what species but they were quite small so possibly Common Dolphin.

Like its’ predecessors the Peregrine put on a good show. At one point it even perched on the balcony of someone’s room, the distance and angle were against me but you get the idea.

Tomorrow I’ve arranged to be guided around Nova Scotia. I have no idea how good it will be species wise, but after six sea days that have been less than fecund just seeing lots of birds will do nicely.
