Conference Birding

James (centre), myself and other participants in the morning bird walk

I have a number of blogposts I’d like to write that I haven’t got round too. We’ll see if I get round to them.

This week I was at a work conference at the Cotswold Water Park. Clearly I’d worked out that even in mid June that would be a great place to visit. What I hadn’t factored in just how superb a birding venue the De Vere hotel is.

This was the view from my room.

I saw Tufted Ducks, Great Crested Grebes, Mute Swans and Reed Buntings from my desk. As well as this family of Coot.

There were also several Common Terns flying around the hotel birding over the three days.

The Head of Membership Engagement at the event hosts the PLSA is James Walsh, another northwest birder. He arranged bird walks both mornings circuiting the lake. I was co-opted as a joint leader, and it was great to show an enthusiastic group of people some of the birdlife including Pochard, Garden Warblers and Grey Herons.

A great venue for a birder, and the chance to share knowledge with interested newcomers to birding made it an all round great couple of days.
