Today I was on a tour of the island. This included a visit to “Djerbahood’. a street art project that began a decade ago in the village of Erriadh. I guess many people reading this will be Blackpool based, and familiar with Sand, Sea and Spray which did similar work on buildings in the town.
The works are far from all about birds. But a lot of them feature birds so given this blog is about birds I’ve curated a set of my favourites with an ornithological dimension. At the top of the page are Goldfinches as you would never normally see them.

Even without the crocodile it’s striking how easy it is to see this is an Egyptian Plover from what is basically a bare outline. Readers who don’t know this species may be interested to know they are called ‘crocodile birds’ because they pick food off from the teeth of the fearsome reptiles!

Other similar pieces to the one above perhaps by the same artist featured birds instead of plains. Again it is instantly obvious that the birds are Swallows even though they are simple silhouettes.

A pair of Great Flamingos in the above picture, a familiar sight as we drove round the Djerba coastline today. I guess the artist(s) could also be responsible for the similar work below with presumed Barnacle Geese.

Below a Short-toed Eagle, aka Short-toed Snake Eagle, doing what they do.

A couple to finish where things are not what they seem at first when you look a little more closely.

If you’re interested and want to find out more, including works without birds in them, there is an official website that covers all the artists and works at https://djerbahood.com.
