Little Stint
An early morning walk up the beach to Rabli lagoon got the day of to a great start. In particular where there had been Sandwich Terns yesterday a smaller relative was present today in the form of an immature Black Tern. I only got photos on the deck but I saw it in flight as it apparently left.

I’ve not really got a handle on how to find passerines on Boa Vista really. It wasn’t difficult to pick out the Willow Warbler though that engaged in sub-song for about ten minutes as I watched the tern. Two new Cape Verde birds for me before breakfast was a good start.
After several hours reading and swimming I had another crack at the lagoon in the afternoon. This was the first time I had a look at the whole expanse inland to the road bridge. This paid dividends with a couple of Shoveler further upstream than I’d previously covered.

After this afternoon sortie I had promised Jane I wouldn’t do anymore birding. However Jane wanted a walk up the beach and also wanted me to check the lagoon again. This time I had the first gull I’ve seen on Cape Verde, a young Yellow-legged Gull. I have no pictures of this, which is probably for the best as I fell in mud whilst confirming it and somehow kept my binoculars clear of the carnage.
Another good day. I suspect the numbers of waders at Rabil will start to tail off a bit now but we will see.
